Since its grand opening in 2015 by then German Chancellor Angela Merkel, the European Hansemuseum has achieved numerous milestones. As the most visited museum in Lübeck, it contributes to the city's attractiveness as a tourist destination and thus also strengthens the regional economy. As a cultural educational institution, the EHM pursues the goal of ‘creating trust, assuming social responsibility and jointly strengthening the values of a vibrant democracy’, emphasises Director Dr Felicia Sternfeld. In exhibitions and events, the EHM addresses current and social issues such as sustainability and globalisation, thereby linking Hanseatic history with the here and now.

Highlights of the anniversary year include a lavish birthday party on 17 and 18 May, an official ceremony on 27 May 2025 and the opening of the new ‘Epilogue’ exhibition space, where visitors are taken from the past back to the present.
