Voyage to the Hanseatic Day: Kamper Kogge sets sail

On 10 May, the Kamper Kogge left its home port for Sweden. In just over three weeks, Henk van Voornveld and his crew plan to arrive in the harbour of Visby on the island of Gotland just in time for the start of the 45th International Hanseatic Day. It is the longest sea voyage the cog has ever undertaken.

The route takes the ship from the Ijsselmeer through the North Sea and the Kiel Canal into the Baltic Sea, passing Karlskrona and the island of Öland. On board, the Kamper Kogge carries wooden crates with goods from several Dutch and Rhenish Hanseatic cities, which are transported as in the old days. During the Hanseatic Day, it is possible to visit the cog in Visby harbour.

On the Polarsteps website of crew member Denys Lukoshkin you can follow the journey of the Kamper cog live.
