Highlights
Castle complex with castle park
In 1344, the Osnabrück prince-bishop Gottfried von Arnsberg built a fortress tower with a residential part - first mentioned as "Vorstenowe". The historically important prince-bishop's palace, which dates back to the founding period, now houses the administration of the joint municipality of Fürstenau. The large, water-rich castle park invites you to linger.
Historic old town with peasant houses
The town of Fürstenau came into being in the mid-14th century as a supplementary protection and defense system for the fortress. Farmers from the surrounding area soon settled under the protection of the castle and defended this first settlement. Fürstenau thus became an arable settlement. Even today, these houses characterize the historic townscape.
Quaint guest tour
Our tour guides slip into their individual historical roles and tell stories from the eventful past of the Hanseatic city of Fürstenau. In this fun way you can explore the castle and the historic old town with its churches and half-timbered houses and walk on the paths of former townspeople.
Distillery
The Philipp Becker distillery in Fürstenau was entered in the commercial register in 1830. Since then, she has been supplying Fürstenau and the surrounding area with her range of products, which includes considerably more than just the proverbial "Gran from Becker, it tastes delicious". Guided tours and tastings are possible in the traditional company on request.
