Duisburg

Duisburg owes its location on the Rhine and Ruhr to its foundation over 1,000 years ago. Even today, the theme of water is omnipresent in the city because the two elements of water and fire have always shaped Duisburg. Shipbuilders and steelmakers have made the city what it is today. Thus, the internationally shaped port city offers many exciting opportunities that not only visitors but also residents should get to know.

Directly behind Duisburg City Hall, the banks of the inner harbour invite you to take a stroll. Restaurants and bistros are housed here in former warehouse buildings. Relaxation in idyllic nature can be found at the Sechs-Seen-Platte, lined with dense forest. Canoeing, water skiing and dragon boating are all possible at the Duisburg Sportpark.

Duisburg also offers a wide range of cultural activities. Outstanding events and festivals, important art museums and unique concerts, theatre and ballet performances characterise the leisure life of this versatile and multifaceted city.
