The European Heritage Days are a joint project of the Council of Europe and the European Union. Every September, cultural events such as the Doors Opens Day in Scotland take place throughout Europe. In the meantime, the European Heritage Days have taken the time to present the Latvian Hanseatic ciy of Straupe with its picturesque Lielstraupe Castle. From the Middle Ages and the Hanseatic period to the days of the Soviet Union, the history of the town is brought back to life there.
