The Day of the Hansa began on Friday evening with a conference organised by the University of La Rochelle on the subject of ‘La Rochelle and the Hansa, yesterday and today‘. The keynote speaker was the professor, historian and expert on the Hanseatic League, Tobias Boestad. He was joined by Gisela Sebbin, travel guide and expert for Union of Cities THE HANSA. In addition to the historical Hanseatic League, the city's participation in the upcoming International Hanseatic Day in Gdansk was discussed as well.

The next day, La Rochelle's tourist office offered its own guided tours on the subject of the Hanseatic League for the first time, which were conducted by Gisela Sebbin and were free of charge for everyone. At the beginning of each tour there was a little surprise: a special animated comic (or webtoon) about the Hanseatic history of La Rochelle. This is now also available in English.
