A total of seven sites of the old Hansa have been recognized by UNESCO as World Heritage Sites. These include Bryggen, the former Hanseatic Kontor in Bergen, and the old town of Lübeck, the Queen of the Hansa. At the end of last year, 21 selected original documents on Hanseatic history also made it onto the World Heritage Register as Documentary Heritage. What they all share is their connection to the Hanseatic League. The aim of the new World Heritage overview is now to put these impressive cultural monuments in relation to each other and to present them briefly. There is a short entry for each World Heritage Site, providing brief information about its Hanseatic history and highlighting special sights. Further information can be found on the linked UNESCO World Heritage entries and the official tourist guides of the respective cities.
