The exposed location at the intersection of two long-distance trade routes brought Warendorf into the focus of Hanseatic trade early on. The "Warendorphs" and their descendants shaped Hanseatic history. Later, Warendorf acted as the spokesperson for the Westphalian triangle. Even today, the traces of the Hanseatic era can be seen in the townscape. The old alleys and the historic merchants' houses bear witness to the medieval history and invite you to take a dreamy stroll. Warendorf is now world-famous as a town with horse flair.
