Osnabrück belonged to the Hanseatic League from 1412 and grew to considerable prestige. The city was the site of negotiations for the Peace of Westphalia, which was proclaimed here from the steps of the town hall in 1648.

The "heart of the city" is the market. In front of the red and yellow gabled houses of the Hanseatic merchants, you can enjoy delicious food in cafés and restaurants with a view of the town hall and St. Mary's Church. Next door, St. Peter's Cathedral from the 13th century impresses with its massive towers. The former trade routes have been transformed into attractive shopping streets.
