VENI SANCTE SPIRITUS Concert - European Hanse Ensemble

Pentecost in the Hanseatic cities

17. May 2024 | 7:30 PM Duderstadt

"And there came a sound from heaven ..." The so-called outpouring of the Holy Spirit, as it is told in the Acts of the Apostles in the New Testament and is hardly familiar to us today, formed the basis for the Christian festival of Pentecost (Pentecost = 50 days after Easter). In the magnificent church music of the Hanseatic period, the event is celebrated in numerous colorful compositions and explains the biblical history to the faithful in a sonorous way. The multi-faceted program contains works that were composed in rich Hanseatic cities such as Hamburg, Danzig, Stettin or Lüneburg and reflects the need for representation of the wealthy trading metropolises. The European Hanseatic Ensemble performs works by Crato Bütner, Philipp Dulichius, Andreas Hakenberger, Marcin Mielczewski, Franciszek Lilius, Antonius Mors, Bartholomäus Gesius, Adam Jarzębski, Hieronymus Praetorius, Leonhard Schröter, Johannes Schultz, Thomas Selle, Johann Vierdanck, Johann Julius Weiland and Friedrich Weißensee.

The concert will take place at Duderstadt Town Hall.
