The almost 1000-year-old town cultivates its customs every year in August with the Warburger Kälkenfest. A festival with a mixture of cosy get-togethers, town history and performances. Its name is derived from the tanners' lime pits, which used to be located outside the old town walls on the river Diemel. The history of the town and the Warburg region comes to life in civic plays. The siege by "Tollen Christian", medieval court scenes and processions in historical costumes, played and portrayed by Warburg citizens, make the festival a very special experience. The idyllic Old Town Square is the focal point of the festival. The programme is complemented by music, dance and performances.
