Hansa Festival in Limbaži medieval hillfort

It is a tradition that began in 2016 and has become an integral part of the Limbaži City Festival.

The festival promotes the importance of medieval cultural heritage in the public consciousness, contributing to the preservation of national and regional identity, as well as creating an understanding of the unique contribution of the city of Limbaži and the region, introducing residents to the place of the city of Limbaži and the region in the context of Latvian and world history. During the festival, residents and guests of the city have the opportunity to participate in various workshops, games, etc. activities organized by the Limbaži Museum at the Limbaži Medieval Hillfort.

For the second year, as part of the Hanseatic Festival 2025, Blacksmiths' Day will be held. Blacksmiths from all over Latvia will be gathered at the Castle Hill by Gatis Pīpkalējs, continuing the tradition of popularizing the blacksmith's craft and the skills necessary for it.

Other planned activities: Wicker weaving; Goat and rabbit enclosure; Archery is organized as a competition, where the winner receives a cup made of clay; Javelin throwing is organized as a competition, where the winner receives a cup made of clay; Medieval cooking studio with tasting. A rural kitchen corresponding to the conditions of an authentic hike is demonstrated; Medieval art workshop. Event visitors have the opportunity to paint medieval miniatures with authentic paints. The workshop leader demonstrates and talks about the methods and ways of obtaining paints in the medieval period.
