The German Salt Museum opened its doors for the first time on September 9, 1989 and has since become a popular destination for tourists and the people of Lüneburg.
The “white gold” has made Lüneburg a wealthy and important member of the medieval Hanseatic League. “We are not only celebrating 35 years of the German Salt Museum, but also the close connection to our city and its rich history, which is based on salt. The anniversary shows how alive our heritage is and how much it means to the people of Lüneburg. We are therefore looking forward to welcoming many guests on these special days,” says museum director Dr. Alexandra Hentschel.
The German Salt Museum is celebrating its anniversary with an open day on 8 September and a special exhibition with a varied accompanying program consisting of contemporary witness cafés, a storytelling stage and guided tours.
