HANSEartWORKS is an important exhibition project from the Union of Cities THE HANSA. This year’s exhibition had been at the Łaźnia CCA in Gdańsk as part of the International Hanseatic Day. The location was chosen deliberately and is of historical significance, as the Łanźnia CCA was the first public art centre to be established in the downtown Gdańsk after the political transformation of 1989. It was from here that it sent an important, fundamental signal about a new approach to the so-called fine arts.
The themes of HANSEartWORKS focus on the historical and contemporary Hanseatic League and its associated values and community of values.
The motto of this year’s exhibition, "Made in Hansa", reflects this basic idea. The participating artists from the eight Hanseatic cities in the exhibition approached the subject with great sensitivity and used environmentally friendly materials that have a connection to where they originate from.
This catalogue makes the exhibition comprehensible even beyond the networked Hanseatic cities and continues the seventeen-year development of HANSEartWORKS.
